1. What is eCAAT?

eCAAT is an affordable Data Analytics software which is powerful but simple to learn and easy to use. The key features are:

2. Why should I choose eCAAT over other CAAT and data analytics software?

  • Many audit firms and internal audit departments do not use audit software or are unable to use it to its full potential primarily due to lack of awareness and cost considerations. Most of the standalone Generalised Audit Software (GAS) is not only expensive but also requires a steep learning curve.   • eCAAT can be applied for any type of data analysis and for reviewing any files whether it is sales register, purchase register, day book, cash book, journal, Balance sheet, Profit & loss a/c, Inventory, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, etc.

5. Which eCAAT function will be most useful to me?

  • eCAAT software is designed to cater to the requirements of multiple users. There are more than 300+ functions. Each function has its own specific objective. Hence, what function is useful depends on the specific requirements of the assignment.

6. How can I use eCAAT in my profession?

  • eCAAT has been designed to be used by Auditors, CXOs and Forensic/Fraud Investigators. Users can identify specific data of their interest and export this to Excel format. This file can then be opened in Excel and analysed using eCAAT as required.
  • There is no need to know how to use macros or time consuming data analysis software. eCAAT brings this power through simple select and click functions. Download & Install

1. Where can I download eCAAT?

  • The link for downloading eCAAT will be provided by email only to customers after remittance of the license fees. Free upgrades are available from the link in the help menu of the software.

3. How do I install eCAAT?

  • First, download eCAAT using the link provided and save the file to your computer. Then, double-click the downloaded file to initiate setup. Follow the on-screen instructions until eCAAT is successfully installed (restart may be required if .NET framework was newly installed into your system).

4. Do I have to install the VSTO that appears after I install eCAAT?

  • Yes, it is imperative that you install the VSTO (Visual Studio Tools for Office) setup that appears after you have installed eCAAT (VSTO setup appears right after eCAAT files are installed in your system) otherwise eCAAT will not work. The VSTO setup installs the eCAAT add-in into MS Excel.

5. Setup did not work. What do I do?

  • It is possible that eCAAT’s setup file may be corrupt. Please download the setup file again and try installing eCAAT again. Also, check eCAAT’s system requirements and make sure you meet them. If you still have issues, contact our friendly support team, they will help you to install eCAAT.

6. Setup installed eCAAT and restarted my computer but I still don’t see the WinCAAT tab in MS Excel. Why?

  • The reason you do not see the WinCAAT tab in MS Excel is because your system does not have .NET Framework 4 and/ or Visual Studio Tools for Office software installed. Please download from Microsoft’s website and re-install eCAAT setup.

7. What versions of Windows and MS Excel does eCAAT support?

  • eCAAT supports systems with Windows Vista and above. eCAAT will run on MS Excel 2010 and above.

8. Is eCAAT compatible with Mac OS?

  • eCAAT Software works only on Windows version of MS Excel and will not run on Mac OS. However, a work around would be to use an application that can create a virtual machine (VM) running a Windows operating system with MS Excel installed and then install and run eCAAT Software there.

9. What is .NET Framework and why do I need it?

  • Dot NET Framework is a software framework developed by Microsoft that is used by many software applications developed and running on Windows. eCAAT is one of those software. It runs on Dot NET Framework 4.0, and cannot be used unless the framework is present.

10. What are the other system requirements?

  • The other system requirements of eCAAT are identical to those of MS Excel. If your system is able to run MS Excel 2010 or above, it should be capable of running eCAAT.

11. How do I uninstall eCAAT?

  • eCAAT can be uninstalled from: Control Panel --> Programs and Features --> Uninstall a program --> Select eCAAT --> Click Uninstall.

Activation And License

1. What is an activation code?

  • An activation code is a 16-digit alphanumeric code that you will receive on your purchase or request for demo version of eCAAT. This activation code will have to be entered into activation form of eCAAT after installation.

2. How do I activate eCAAT?

  • The software link provided to the customer through email should be downloaded first.
  • Close MS Excel if it is open.
  • Install eCAAT setup file.
  • After installation is complete, open MS Excel.
  • Click on the WinCAAT tab, click Panel --> Help and Options --> Licensing --> New License --> Paid. Activation, form will open. Click on activate tab.
  • Enter your firm name in Client Name:
  • Enter the Serial Number: (as allotted).
  • Click the Verify Serial Number button. By default, license available will be shown (eCAAT will be available for activation.).
  • Click Next ,and enter your email id to tag serial key with email id (helps to track your serial key on wincaat customer portal).
  • Click Activate. The software will check online for license available and activate.
  • After activation, Excel will close and re-open.
  • Please download latest help of eCAAT by clicking on Panel: Help & Options --> Help --> Updates.

3. Can I use the same eCAAT license key on multiple systems?

  • No. Your license will only work on one system at any given time. If you want to use same license on another system by surrendering the license from existing system.

4. When I opened MS Excel, a message box appeared saying, “Your eCAAT license has expired”

  • This message is displayed when your licensed activation period is over. You will no longer be able to use eCAAT’s functions. If you want to re-activate eCAAT, you will have to buy a new license from Connex Teletech Private Ltd.

5. How do I buy a new license or renew existing license for eCAAT?

6. How can I check the remaining days left on my license?

  • You can find the remaining days left on your eCAAT license here:
  • Open MS Excel --> Click on the eCAAT tab --> In the Help group --> Click on About Us
  • Your license information and eCAAT build details will also be displayed.

7. How long will my license last?

  • The license is valid for the period of purchase which is usually one year and can be further renewed for one year at a time.

8. Can I surrender license and activate on another system?

  • Yes. You can surrender your valid license from existing computer/laptop and activate it on another computer/laptop. This can be done online using the licensing function in help menu. Please contact

9. I have bought an additional WinCAAT Software to my existing serial number. How do I install/ activate it?

  • For any additional software purchases such as T-CAAT, SCAAT, etc. to existing licenses, you can install/ activate the newly purchased software in-:Help & Options --> Licensing --> Add If this does not work, please contact Connex Teletech Private Limited Ltd by email/phone.

10. I have formatted my system without surrendering my WinCAAT Software. How can I re-activate my license?

  • You can re-activate the same license on the same computer by using the Re-Activate same System function.
  • If you only see the WinCAAT tab, click on Re-activate Menu --> Same System Or In any other WinCAAT Software tab --> Help & Options Menu --> Licensing --> Re-activate --> Same System
  • Enter your license details and click Re-activate. It is not possible to re-activate your license in any other system.

11. How do I uninstall eCAAT?

  • eCAAT can be uninstalled from: Control Panel --> Programs and Features --> Uninstall a program --> Select eCAAT --> Click Uninstall.

Using eCAAT

1. Is there a free/ demo/ trial/ evaluation version of eCAAT?

  • We do not provide trial or demo version as the software has been time-tested and proven. However, users can view demo of key functions of the software:

2. How do I start using eCAAT?

  • After installation and activation, an additional tab will be displayed in MS Excel named "eCAAT". Clicking on the eCAAT tab will display all of eCAAT’s functions.
  • It is highly recommended that you go through eCAAT’s guidelines document before you start using eCAAT to ensure that your data is recognised and fully compatible with eCAAT.

3. Does eCAAT come with sample data?

  • Yes, eCAAT has a sample data workbook with sample worksheets which can be used to perform/ learn/ practice eCAAT’s functions. To access eCAAT’s sample data: Click on the eCAAT tab --> Documents menu --> Test Data.

4. Are there tutorials on using eCAAT?

  • There are written and video tutorials on using eCAAT.

5. How does eCAAT treat Null and blank cells?

  • Null cells (cells with no values or spaces or any other data) and blank cells (cells with spaces, etc. which make the cell look empty) are treated the same in MS Excel, but differently in eCAAT depending on the function used.

6. I’ve made an error and want to undo, is there is undo feature in eCAAT?

  • There is no undo function in the current version of eCAAT. Hence, undo is not possible when using eCAAT. If you want to undo/ start from the beginning, it is recommended that you take a backup of your file and perform eCAAT functions on either one of the files.

Troubleshooting

1. eCAAT is taking too long/ how long will eCAAT take to run a function?

  • eCAAT is generally very fast so it should not take long to display results. However, the speed of eCAAT may be affected by the speed of your computer and if you have a very large number of records in your worksheet.

2. In the ‘Select Field’ drop down box, eCAAT shows columns named ‘F9’, ‘F10’, etc. What are these and how can I remove these from my data?

  • eCAAT displays these fields in the drop down list when there are blank columns in your data. You can remove them all by using the 'Remove Empty Columns function in eCAAT located in: Click on the eCAAT tab --> Worksheet Commands Menu --> Columns --> Remove --> Empty Column(s)

3. After a function is executed, eCAAT does not show results. Why?

  • eCAAT is not able to show results as you probably have an empty row (most likely in the 2nd row) in your data. You can manually remove the empty row(s) or have eCAAT do it using the 'Remove Empty Rows' function located in: Click on the eCAAT tab --> Worksheet Commands Menu --> Rows --> Remove Empty Rows

4. eCAAT was working fine, but it has disappeared from MS Excel. How do I resolve this issue? (Option 1)

  • The most likely cause is that eCAAT has become disabled in MS Excel. This is usually caused because eCAAT stopped responding and was closed unexpectedly. To fix this, please follow these instructions: Run WinCAAT.exe from your desktop and select the option as "Click run to enable wincaat software"
  • In Excel 2010 and above: Click on the File tab on the top left corner of the screen.
  • Click on 'Options' and then 'Add-ins'.
  • Click on the drop down box at the bottom of the dialog box and choose 'Disabled items' and then click on 'Go'.
  • Here, find and select eCAAT and click 'Enable'. eCAAT should be back to normal.

5. eCAAT was working fine, but it has disappeared from MS Excel. How do I resolve this issue? (Option 2)

  • Another reason that eCAAT has disappeared from MS Excel could be because it has not loaded at start up. To fix this, please follow these instructions: Run WinCAAT.exe from your desktop and select the option as "Click run to enable wincaat software"
  • Click on the File tab on the top left corner of the screen.
  • Click on 'Options' and then 'Add-in'.
  • Click on the drop down box at the bottom of the dialog box and choose 'COM add-ins' and then click on 'Go'.
  • Here, find and check the box beside eCAAT and click 'OK'. eCAAT should be back to normal.

6. eCAAT was working fine, but it has disappeared from MS Excel. How do I resolve this issue? (Option 3)

  • If both the above fixes do not work, try uninstalling and re-installing eCAAT. This will not affect your activation period/ status.
  • In any other case where the eCAAT tab is not displayed in MS Excel, please contact Connex Teletech Private Ltd.

7. eCAAT displays no/ incomplete results

  • eCAAT may display incomplete results or no results at all if the data in your worksheet is not in a proper tabular format recognised by and compatible with eCAAT. If you want to effectively use eCAAT, the data in your worksheet has to conform to the following standard:
  • Ensure that the first row in your worksheet is column headings.
  • When an eCAAT function is executed, the first row is generally excluded from processing, as it is regarded to be the column’s heading, therefore, it is advised to maintain the first row as a header row.
  • Ensure columns have unique headings so that eCAAT is able to differentiate between two columns.
  • Ensure that there are no total or subtotal rows.
  • It is recommended that data in a worksheet does not contain any empty rows. Empty rows can be removed by using the "Remove empty rows" function in the WorkSheet commands menu.
  • Ensure that dates in the worksheet are in a format recognised by Excel.
  • Ensure that the name of your worksheet does not contain spaces or special characters.
  • For a comprehensive list of guidelines see eCAAT’s general guidelines and specific guidelines document.

8. Why are some eCAAT functions disabled in my file?

  • eCAAT will automatically disable some functions that require specific data, for example, ‘MIS’ and ‘Aging’ will be disabled when there are no date columns/ date columns are not recognized by eCAAT.

9. Why is eCAAT almost completely disabled in my file?

  • The most probable reasons that eCAAT is almost completely disabled in your file
  • You are trying to use eCAAT on a new and/ unsaved document. Save and reopen your document and eCAAT should now be enabled.
  • You are trying to use eCAAT on a new worksheet. Save and reopen your document or switch to another worksheet and then switch back to the first worksheet and eCAAT should now be enabled.
  • The name of your worksheet contains spaces/ special characters. Remove the spaces/ special characters in the name your worksheet, save and reopen your document.

10. MS Excel/ eCAAT is not responding. What do I do?

  • The reason MS Excel or eCAAT is not responding is because it is trying to process data in the background, please be patient until eCAAT is done processing your file and is ready to display results.

11. eCAAT’s Sample Data file opens in read-only mode and none of eCAAT’s functions can be performed on the file/ eCAAT’s Sample Data does not open when clicked. What do I do?

  • If eCAAT’s Sample Data file opens as a read-only file/ does not open at all: Close MS Excel And Delete the "eCAAT_Test_Data1.xlsx" file located in – "C:\ProgramData\wincer\eCAAT" folder And Re-open MS Excel

12. How can I disable eCAAT Software from Excel?

  • To disable eCAAT Software tabs from Excel, Run WinCAAT.exe from desktop and select the option "Disable WinCAAT software from Excel and click OK . WinCAAT Software should now be disabled" Or Click on File tab/ Office button --> Options --> Add-ins --> in the drop-down box (at the bottom of the dialog box) Choose "COM add-ins" --> Click "Go" --> Uncheck the box beside "eCAAT" and click "OK". WinCAAT Software should now be disabled."
